skip to content home our capabilities anaerobic facilities chemical synthesis computational simulation electrochemistry reaction analysis spectroelectochemistry time-resolved spectroscopy x-ray crystallography people members research staff students international advisory board publications contact us welcome the eml is a state-of-the-art centre bringing together chemistry, physics, environmental science and biology to address the energy needs of the 21st century. by combining expertise from a number of research fields, the eml is tackling problems including artificial photosynthesis, hydrogen production and storage, solar energy capture using nanoparticles and exploiting enzymes for energy transfer. as well as the strong physical base in norwich, the eml is actively involved in the solarcap and supergen projects, which enable us to connect with an even wider group of scientists throughout the uk. news set for britain 2014 – two eml students are finalists! set for britain selects early career researchers to present and discuss ground-breaking and frontier uk research to members of both houses of parliament with the aim of fostering greater dialogue and engagement between researchers and members both in westminster and in their constituencies. eml students amanda hill and aušra jablonskytė have both been invited to independently present their research on march 17th at westminster and to compete with other finalists for a prestigious medal and prize. aušra and amanda, phd students in the pickett laboratory, are working on chemistry of the the active site of the [fefe]-hydrogenase. amanda will describe her research on how nature makes this remarkable iron sulphur assembly whilst aušra will focus on how it catalyses the generation of molecular hydrogen from protons via iron hydrides links with fudan university strengthened distinguished scientists from fudan university recently visited uea to forge new links and discuss new funding opportunities with the school of chemistry. uea hosted five scientists from the laboratory of advanced materials and the department of chemistry of fudan university, shanghai . the purpose of the visit was to strengthen and extend interactions with the and the school of chemistry, particularly to promote the exchange of postgraduate students and staff. during their visit the 2nd energy materials workshop was held at which the fudan guests and uea colleagues spoke about their science. this followed on from the 1st workshop held in fudan in 2011 involving professor david richardson, dr yimin chao, dr congxiao shang, dr carl redshaw and professor chris pickett from uea. funding success for dr wildgoose new, state-of-the-art spectroscopic, electrochemical and anaerobic facilities added to the eml’s capabilities via the pihomer european research council grant to dr greg wildgoose . this new funding will allow the wildgoose group to expand significantly, and opens up new research avenues for the eml. eml students are award winners students across the eml have been busy over the summer attending high-profile events, and winning awards in the process. less webster (pickett group) was selected to present his research at the set for britain event, which takes place at parliament each year. thomas dann (wildgoose group) won the prize for best poster at the rsc great western electrochemistry meeting, showcasing his work on organometallic electrochemistry. aušra jablonskytė (pickett group) was another winner , presenting her work in london at the rsc postgraduate electrochemistry symposium. aušra’s prize included the opportunity to travel to dublin to give her talk at electrochem 2012. well done to all of our students: a great effort all round. comments are closed. © uea 2014. all rights reserved. university of east anglia, norwich, nr4 7tj, uk.
